In late June, I traveled to the South Carolina coast to paint outside (en plein air) in the hope of capturing the low country landscape. It is here that live oaks, Spanish moss, water fowl, palmettoes and glistening water are interspersed among and around the marshes. Colorful sunrises and sunsets add to the enchantment. Many of these studies were painted as the sun was rising, one before dawn and a couple mid-day. Plein Air painting offers many challenges in general, but here in particular the natural conditions— the heat, humidity and no-see-ums (bugs!) of the low country—proved especially challenging! I am pleased to offer 12 studies that came out of this time there. I hope you enjoy these pieces that were painted in the open air.
Please note: all paintings are acrylic on flat linen panel and should be professionally framed. Please read this section for information on shipping and framing: How to Purchase a Painting (and other useful information)
